| Patrice Pike and the Black Box Rebellion |
Black Box Rebellion may not be a familiar name with too many people outside of the Texas area but many may recognize Patrice Pike's name as the excellent singer from the groups Little Sister and sister seven. BBR is an Austin, TX based group that is comprised of former LS & s7 members Patrice and guitarist Wayne Sutton with Michael Hale keepin' the drums rocking and Dany Beltran thumping the bass that have evolved the music of Pike/Sutton's previous groups to another level. Patrice has reached into her jazz influences, among others, to infuse a different yet familiar and cozy feeling to the music. As usual, Patrice's voice is strong and powerful while keeping the warm tender side there when needed and (co-songwriter) Wayne's guitar licks are as awesome as ever. With BBR, Pike and Sutton have decided to control their future by releasing the Band's current EP Flat 13 on their independent label, ZainWayne Records, and launching an intensive grass roots promotion program to get the word out about BBR, the Flat 13 EP, current tour and upcoming full CD release Fencing Under Fire due in early 2002. The Rebellion is hitting the streets in cities near you .... Do you have what it takes to be a Rebel? Check out their site, listen to the songs and hit the streets running if you can keep up with the big dogs.
| Ann McWilliams Band |
Ann McWilliams (formerly of Plaid Descent) has put together a rockin' band that is expanding its fan base outside of the Central Indiana area while touring to promote their new CD Sister Luna and the Diamond Stars. Ann is also very proactive in promoting Indianapolis' live music scene through the annual City of Music Festival as well as encouraging the arts in general through the The ArtistWorks Foundation. Ann is also a co-host of the City of Music Radio Hour which helps to showcase unsigned and independent musicians from throughout the state of Indiana. The CoMRH can be heard on Sundays @ 8PM (Indianapolis time) on WTTS 92.3 FM which covers a large number of people from across Central IN and parts of IL, OH and KY who can hear the great diversity of music that WTTS has to offer.
| Chantal Kreviazuk |
Some of you may already know who Chantal is but for those who are not familiar with her music then check her out at her Sony Music Canada site. She incorporates the beautiful music of the piano with rock tunes and intelligent lyrics to create a sound that stands out from the majority of the artists on the musical landscape. |
| Ashworth |
Ashworth is a band that has recently settled into Indianapolis as their base of operation. I was introduced to their music recently when they opened for Jennie. These guys ROCK! As they describe themselves .... they're "acoustic rock with an edge" and they are too. For an acoustic guitarist, drummer and 6-string bass player they have a sound that's different and sometimes leaves you wondering where the other musicians are. By combining hard driving acoustic guitar, a funking bass line groove and just enough percussion along with some very interesting effects on both bass and guitar, Ashworth is definitely worth checking out. |
| LoveNugget |
If you liked the sound of Melissa Etheridge's early music then you might want to give LoveNugget a listen. The group consists of the awesome duo Mauricio 'Fritz' Lewak pounding out the beat on drums and bassist, and producer of numerous albums, Kevin McCormick who are joined by guitarist Mark Goldenberg and Jennifer Gross ' sweet smooth voice providing vocals. Read their bio and you'll soon learn that they're out there having fun and also giving people some good tunes too.

| Eva Cassidy |
Eva Cassidy has IMHO the most beautiful pure singing voices that I have ever heard. It's a terrible shame the music industry is so driven by the bottom line and how to pigeon-hole artists/musicians to market them rather than see the true talent that they possess, or in many instances of so-called pop stars ... the talent they lack. Eva was definitely not in the latter category. She could sing anything beautifully. |
